Our Chosen Charity
Clarks Farm has been a registered charity since 2006. The charity has been homing greyhounds for the last 10 years. A large number of their greyhounds come from Crayford Stadium, however they do have dogs coming in from all over the country, either directly after retiring from different tracks or sometimes they have just been abandoned.
Clarks Farm Rescue took in 16 greyhounds in the last year after the RSPCA removed them from filthy trainers Kennels, the dogs were in a terrible state; all but one of the dogs has now been successfully re-homed. The final dog is still being cared for at Clarks farm and is hoping to find a new home one day soon.
There is currently a waiting list of dogs needing a place a Clarks most are an average age of just 3 years old and are perfectly fit and health they are just no longer fast enough for the track. As grey hounds have an average age of 14 years old, they have many years of retirement to enjoy, unfortunately many do not get the opportunity and their lives are cruelly cut short due to nothing more than financial reasons and the fact they can no longer make money for their owners.
My personal experience with two ex racers is that they make lovely and affectionate pets that are excellent with children, well behaved and so laid back that they are easy to care for.
Clarks Farm care for 50 - 60 dogs at any one time and rely heavily on donations to care for and re-home as many Greyhounds as possible.
